During the weekend Karibe Convention Center was home to Kreata Salon Creatif.  The brainchild of Beatrice Celestine of TwixCism, along with some other Friends with Design, Kreata was an expo to showcase digital art and what it means in Haiti today.

More than 20 exhibitors in the domain of graphic design, illustration, audio/visual arts, photography, digital printing, and 3D art, participated.  The event attracted students in the domain as well as those with advertising and production companies, or those simply interested in the latest technology.

There were some fascinating displays, with amazing light installations and special effects.  One such exhibition was from FastForward, displaying their production and lighting works via a screen high above the venue.  Graphcity, one of the event innovators, had an artist sketching as onlookers watched his work on a screen being converted into digital art.  There were some known names in the industry such as marketing and advertising company; Blue Mango, illustrator Jerry Boursicot, and the event’s main sponsor; Tecktra Graphics & Innovative Display Solutions.  There were also some new faces in the domain, like Chevelin Illustrations; a group of young artist who create comic books in French and Kreyol complete with superheroes.

Visitors had lots to see, but they also had a lot to learn.  Kreata offered a choice of at least 10 workshops on different topics such as Studio Lighting, Effective Photoshop Retouching, and even Business Intelligence.

The first, of what is to become an annual event, was a success in bringing the best in technology that Haiti has to offer to the forefront and allowing people to see the possibilities.

Congratulation to the innovators as well as all who participated and attended.  I believe this was a great example of what we can do when we put our minds together and also a window into the future of the way we work in Haiti.
