This is my first time cooking with chard; and must admit, when I saw it in Whole Foods, I snatched it up primarily because of  its pretty vibrant colors.

But it's not just a pretty veggie.  It ranks second, only to Spinach, for healthiest vegetable!

Chard, also called; Swiss chard or spinach beet,is a nutritional powerhouse!  It is an excellent source of vitamins K, A, and C as well as a good source of magnesium, potassium, iron, and dietary fiber.

A leafy green vegetable, often used in Mediterranean cooking; chard has been shown to lower blood pressure, reduce the amount of oxygen needed during exercise and enhanced athletic performance.

Just off of a 28-day detox, and trying out the Paleo diet, I was open to trying some more healthy diet alternatives and decided to give chard a try.

Topped mine with a grilled salmon and had a very tasty, flavorful- and nutritious dinner.

Today's Bel Kreyol of the day, is Sophia Raqeaul Clerius.

The Haitian beauty was born in L’artibonite Verrettes. but migrated to the U.S in her early teens.  She grew up in West Virginia, but moved to Florida to pursue her modeling career.

Clerius flashed on our radar when she appeared alongside supermodel Adriana Lima in the Donna Karan Spring 2012 campaign video.  She's also worked for Khol’s, Walmart, Essence Magazine (Oct. 2011), Seventeen Magazine (Oct. 2011, July 2011, June/July 2010), JC Penney Salon, Target and many other magazines and circulations.

Stella Jean has developed a capsule collection in collaboration with OXFAM Italy and Coin Excelsior, to support the "Women's Circle for Change" project.

The collection consists of a boxy cotton shirt, a clutch bag in leather and fabric; both embroidered with a colorful rooster; a symbol of good luck.

There is also the most darling bracelet, made of metal and embellished with bright enamel, handcrafted by artisans in Haiti.

"My collaboration with Oxfam is motivated by a common feeling, a commitment that, through the stimulus of individual resources, works to ensure that such differences cease to exist. A desire to reach through the hearts of women, and I've played with a 'Woman of Heart' which absorbs itself against the desire to colonize places and souls through the bearable lightness of a smile. "Stella Jean

The collaboraion is a major communication project and fundraiseing campaign that will focus  on women's rights and their ability to build a better world.  Other designers involved are Alessia Jacobin (Jo No Fui), and Cristina (Kristina Ti).

December 2014, after over twenty years, designer Prajje Jean-Baptiste visited, the island of his birth, Ayiti.  Jean-Baptiste had traveled all over and received international accolades for his designs, but he still longed to be known and to benefit Haiti.

Jean-Baptiste, along with his team in New York, enlisted the help of, on the ground Branding and Marketing teams of; H. Mystique Inc and JP Media Group.  The group created, L'art de la Mode,  the first fashion exhibit in Haiti, held at one of the county's most renowned art galleries, Galerie D'art Nader.

The time in Haiti allowed the designer to reconnect with his roots and served as an amazing source of inspiration.  Jean-Baptiste returned to New York after the show with the burning desire and pledge to have his next collection made exclusively in Haiti.

This month, Team Prajje 1983, held 'La Mode a Bois Caiman', a fundraising event at Vodou Lounge in Brooklyn, New York.

The event was to support Haiti Fashion Project Fundraiser to support, Prajje 1983 Spring/Summer collection, 1st Haiti made collection.

Special guest performances by Monvelyno and Riva.

Make-up by Martiza Real of Le Boudoir Style and Falicia Ann of Purple & Pink.

The turnout was great and the support amazing.

On behalf of Mr. Jean-Baptiste we want to thank everyone who came out and supported.  Thanks to those who donated either money or time. We thank you and let's keep on pushing. Prajje 1983 continues to operate due in large part to the generous support of the individual donors who believe in our vision and mission. Your contribution will allow a young designer and his collection to reach the audience and the clients needed for the emergence of his brand.
