With NYFW coming to an end, Fashionistas in Haiti and the diaspora can prepare for Haiti Fashion Week 2014 (HFW).  This Monday, members of MODAYITI, CHAPE, HAND, and Afro.K held a press conference at Karib Hotel.

HFW will take place October 30th- Nov 2nd at Karibe Hotel in Petion-Ville.

The European Union is once again a partner, with Mexico being this year's guest of honor.  40 designers will preview their "Extravaganza" pieces.  Mr. Jose Luis Alvarado, Ambassador of Mexico, was on hand to discuss the working relationship between the two countries. Recently, a delegation of Haitian designers traveled for an event Mexico hosted on the promotion of textiles.

Another big partner this year is Afro.K.  Myriam Jean Louis, President of AFRO.K announced that they would be conducting the 6th edition of their fashion competition from October 20th- Nov 2 in Haiti featuring local designers.  Winners will be presented during HFW's opening gala.

The week will kick off with a gala complete with cocktail dinner, fashion show, and live Mariachi. During the week, there will be various workshops to participate in, such as How to break into the International Market, as well as shop your favorite designers at the on-sight boutique.

There will be three days of runway shows, with 15 shows a day.  Forty-Five Designers and 45 models, national and international, will participate in showing their interpretation of this year's theme Ma Mode, Mon Patrimoine; ‘My Fashion, My Heritage’.

Event Coordinator, Michel Chataigne announced that 10,000 visitors are expected to attend the event.
As the second edition had stimulated exchanges with international designers, the third edition is the confirmation that Haiti could consider itself as the bastion of Caribbean fashion.” Chataigne

Tickets for the Opening Gala are at 5000 gourdes approx. $105USD and 1500 gourdes per show night, approx $25US.

a DAY AT THE OFFICE of MODAYITI

While the rest of Haiti was on vacation for the long weekend, MODAYITI; the headquarters for HAITI FASHION WEEK was bustling with activity in preparation for next week shows.

International recording artist, James Germain, stopped by the office and had the staff grinning with delight.  James is a trained opera singer, his tenor voice is so strong, yet like an angel's song. He will be performing at the closing night of HAITI FASHION WEEK.  We love him, because no matter where in the world he is, he is always come back home to support his country.

Here, he just finished yelling at me, saying the last time he saw me I was bald.  Now I have a fat top.  Yes James, it's been too long.
