Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Fashion Awards took place last night at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City. The annual event recognizes the contributions to American fashion by individuals in womenswear, menswear, accessories as well as accomplishments in journalism, creative vision, and lifetime achievement.
The Founder's Award in honor of Eleanor Lambert was giving to Bethann Hardison. A well deserved honor for a woman who has been in the business for a very longtime, and who has mentored and paved the way for many young models and most recently launched a campaign to see more models of color in fashion.
Tom Ford's work and contribution to the fashion world was also acknowledged with the Geoffrey Beene
Lifetime Achievement Award.
But of course the Gal of the evening was Rihanna, who received her Fashion Icon Award from Anna Wintour in a barely-there custom gown by designer Adam Selman. Riri "shinned bright like a diamond" in a floor length gown covered with 230,000 Swarovski crystals. You could just hear Instagram cringe! Rihanna now joins the ranks of past recipeints Kate Moss, Lady Gaga, Johnny Depp, and Nicole Kidman.
Other Winners: the Olsen twins recieved Best Accessories Designer of the Year for their label The Row, Joseph Altuzzara, Womenswear Designer of the Year, Dao-Yi Chow & Maxwell Osborne, Menswear Designer of the Year, and Raf Simons for Doir received the International Award.
