Joan Rivers passed today at Mount Sinai Hospital.

The Emmy winner and Tony nominee was hospitalized at Mt. Sinai Hospital suddenly last Thursday morning in Manhattan, after she became unresponsive and had gone into cardiac arrest during an outpatient procedure at Yorkville Endoscopy on the Upper East Side.

She was placed on life support this week, before being moved out of ICU earlier Wednesday.

On the Wednesday night before her surgery, Rivers spoke about her life and career while promoting her 12th book, Diary of a Mad Diva, at an event at the Time & Life Building in Manhattan. Audience members described the comedian as being as “energetic and boisterous” as usual.

Her daughter, Melissa Rivers released this statement today:

"It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, "She passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother."

Rivers is survived by her daughter Melissa and her grandson Cooper.
