After Fashion week I gave myself a well deserved break. The place I go to when I want to getaway from the hustle and bustle of PAP, is my mother's hometown; Port Salut.
While there, I started every morning with a brisk run. Let me be very honest, the first few days of this "new lifestyle" was excruciating The first run ended with me feeling like I would spit up blood, ad perhaps even a vital organ. Needless to say, I am not at the best shape of my life. You see in PAP, you have no place to walk, let alone run, so I was here to take advantage of the beautiful scenery and the fresh air. Air that I gasped for heavily as I ran. UGH!
After day 3 or so (my mind goes blank as I recap) I started to feel better as I ran. I concentrated on concentrating I deliberately tried to silence my mind, a thing I have tried so hard to do on my bedroom floor, but could never master. I became one with my breath. By day 4, a glance in the mirror, gave me the much needed extra boost, as I saw the amazing shape my calves were beginning to take. I started this by saying I never wanted to be a runner, but I must admit I enjoyed the glimpse of the me possible. There may be something to this.
Atop of that, I also ate VERY well. Dinner each night was the day's fresh catch, delivered to the house each morning, literally just caught and off the boat. On Wednesday I was delighted when the fresh catch was my personal favorite, octopus!! The catch is immediately cleaned and prepped (all herbs are fresh and usually just bought or picked that morning), then grilled on an open fire in the yard. Healthy and AMAZING!
Port Salut has always been know for it's beautiful beaches and beautiful people, there are songs written about it. It's true! These days it has been developing to the next big tourist site. HMMM, not quite sure how I feel about that right now. I would have to see if it would TRULY benefited the people of the town who really needed, and if it would disrupt my place of solace and replenishment.

Port Salut...till me meet again
HM
Port Salut is the most beautiful place that I have visited in Haiti. It's so calm and peaceful. A much needed retreat from the everyday hustle and bustle of the city, Port-au-Prince. I was both happy and grateful that HmMystique invited me to enjoy the beauty that is Port Salut with her and her family. I can't wait to go back again.
